2015 #CMchattys Semi-finalists Announced and Some Notes

First thing I want to say is thanks to everyone for all the support. Nominees, sponsors, #cmchat contributors, partners, fans, community, family each and everyone of you.  We had 47,465 nominations between Twitter and our Facebook App. Being given those numbers was a WOW moment for me.  Huge thanks to our Sponsor Hashtracking for helping track all the hashtags. We would still be counting if the results hadn’t been handed to us on a silver platter. Love it.  I also want to say thanks to everyone who nominated both CMchatlive.com and me. It means the world to me, but it would’t be right, or fair for me to create these awards, then turn around and accept one. SPECIAL THANKS to Taylor Crawford and Cassie Wells, you guys are more than interns, you’re lifelines. COULD NOT have done it without you.  Also my Mom for reminding me to eat, shower and sleep occasionally as well as my Boss Sissy for allowing me do all this.

The nominations process was designed to be completely organic. I stepped aside from all my industry friendships and steered clear of  doing anything I thought might influence, other than the support of artists who had contributed to our, “All About the Shirt” Promo.  I wanted it to be fair and not a mirror of my choices, or #CMchat/CMchatlive.com’s editorial reflections. I threw it out to the world and let “the picture paint itself,” with very few rules, except a daily cap on votes and some loose definitions of categories, PLUS the words “must follow social media content producer.”

Deciding who you love to follow online was left up to you. While last year I think people tended to vote more towards “popularity,” this year there people really paid attention to who gives them the best social media content online, that they love to consume.

The other thing interesting was the addition of the the Facebook App.  Twitter was much more fun and fan based.  I have more “industry” friends who know over 15+ years in/country music media. It had a feel like the difference between reach and frequency, which is why it was weighted 50/50 voting Twitter/Facebook.  But the most voted nominees clearly blew away Twitter and Facebook nominations across the board.

One thing is for sure Brantley Gilbert fans DONT MESS AROUND. He was nominated for every category including Duo, Group, Label even Female, sorry folks wrong kind of tomatoes.

What an amazing thing to discover new artists I hadn’t heard of that I’ve added to my forever playlist.

Loved seeing some names in the Journalist category of people I’ve looked up to for years.  Additionally websites we go to all the time for news/reference/info like  CMA, iHeartRadio, Nashville’s own Tennessean showed up this year, as well as the new country news sites Rolling Stone Country. Additionally the ‘tell it like it is’ blogs of Saving Country Music and last years #CMchattys winner Twang Nation.

I think there were also more a “general public” vote this year, as well as the amazing broadcasting support we received from Big D and Bubba, Shawn Parr with Elaina Smith at Nash Nights and Buck Stevens. We also added a category that BLEW UP in votes: Must Follow DJ for Country Music Club/Concert/EDM/Mix DJs etc.

As far as competition, One-to-Watch was a TOUGH one this year, in hindsight I probably should have left a note that if a One-To-Watch Nominee is also on Male/Female/Duo/Group that we should pick one or the other, going into semi finals in order to open it up to more talent.

With that said, I did not see a few of my PERSONAL favorites to follow online ie Mickey Guyton, Sunny Sweeney, Kristian Bush. This prompted me to come up with  #WildTweet, a category I added for the person who is like a “Miss/Mr congeniality of Country Music and Social Media” that didn’t show up as a nominee already.  Read more about #WildTweet here.

Author: Jessica Northey

Everyone asks “what exactly do you do Jessica?” What some of my family members say, “she tweets for a living” is my favorite, but really the title that puts food on the table is “Social Media Influencer,” the definition sounds simple, someone who influences others through social media, but I consider myself a Citizen Journalist broadcasting and entertaining with news, thoughts, opinions, delivering information in my own unique way. Famous for my ‘sass wit and straight from the hip’ style I’ve always been called a “Social Media Pioneer” in the music industry. I’m also an On-Air/Online Broadcasting Host and Personality, Digital Media Strategist, Country and Music Blogger/Journalist as well as a Nationally recognized Speaker and Founder of Country Music Chat, News and Views Entertainment Website CMChatLIVE.com. My favorite accomplishment is starting the largest Country Music Hashtag community in the world Country Music’s #CMChat. It all started with a hunch...back in the early 2000’s I would dial up the internet via AOL and join chat rooms whilst watching my favorite programs on TV. Loved watching Reality Shows with my Mom in Tucson, and blowing her mind with how I always knew who was going home on the Bachelor or Big Brother. Don’t think she ever caught on that I was talking to people via computer on the East Coast, where it had already aired. (We didn’t have the uber-spoiler Twitter or Facebook to ruin results and awards shows for us yet.) I’ve been taking over the internet, one tweet at a time and have accumulated over 3 Million followers/friends/fans across all my Social Media networks. Over the years I’ve been consistently ranked as an influential online personality and even named as a Forbes Top 50 Social Media Power Influencer. I was the first person Merle Haggard followed when he got on Twitter and spent the day with Garth Brooks at Twitter and Facebook when joined the social media world.
