Before they were Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, solo artists, they were Sugarland … a dynamic duo of hit makers. During their run as one of country music’s hottest pairs, Jennifer and Kristian recorded a holiday-inspired gem, “Gold and Green.”
“Gold and Green” is a song about the beauty of the season. Whether it is the decorations, the snowfall, the warm wishes disguised as gifts, or the overall feeling that the world is a safe haven during this time of year, Sugarland sings of the many things that make Christmastime a promotion of peace, love, and unity amongst the human race.
The video is one of simplicity, filmed mostly (and ironically, considering the title) in black and white, showing the spectacular Jennifer recording the song in a studio, while the multi-talented Kristian works tirelessly to provide the accompanying music and harmonies. The duo can also be seen surrounded by those who made the recordation and video possible, emitting a sense of togetherness and solidarity in the project — two qualities that should also be spotlighted over the holidays.
Perhaps the biggest highlight of this track, apart from the gorgeous vocals of Jennifer Nettles, is the inclusion of a small portion of “The First Noel” before the close of the song, marrying an original holiday track with a religious classic. As Jennifer sings of angels, she sounds like one, supplying her unique voice of perfection to a lone stanza that has never sounded so emotional and touching.
It’s true. Everything does look better in gold and green; and everything also sounds better when the golden duo, Sugarland, lends their talents to it. Allow “Gold and Green” to be all the proof you need.
