Audacious vocal ranges, desperate auditions, and a plethora of fashion and hairstyle do’s and don’ts will soon be gracing our presence again; come January 7, when American Idol XIV premieres on Fox. In anticipation of this fresh presentation of talent, today’s #FashionFriday will feature Idol alums, Lauren Alaina, Scotty McCreery, and Kellie Pickler in an important element of their style – their hair!
2011 American Idol runner-up and “Georgia Peaches” singer Lauren Alaina’s softly curled, long blonde locks are all the rage right now! You can achieve this look first by using a non-aerosol styling spray, such as CHI Iron Guard, then choose a 1-inch barrel curling iron and take 1/2 inch wide vertical sections of hair around your head, in two layers. One layer at the nape of your neck to your mid-ear level, and the second layer would be everything above that. A good rule of thumb to follow is that if you’re trying to go for a softer look like Lauren’s, then do not curl your hair all the way to the root. Roll the iron no higher than the top of your ear, even on the top layer. Hold for 30 seconds, and release.
Fellas, a new year and new season have arrived. That means it’s probably time for an updated haircut. singer Scotty McCreery sure has us “Feelin It” with his dapper hairstyle! Ditch the long locks and go a bit shorter this time! This is an effortless style that you can rock no matter what your hair type or texture is. For straight or slightly wavy hair, you’ll want to use a pomande such as Redken Polish Up. Rub a dime sized amount between your palms and lightly swipe your hands over your hair in a front to back motion to manipulate the style. Curly hair? Try Redken Grip Tight Gel. Rub a dime-sized amount in your palms and instead of smearing it into your hair, try to scrunch your hair to distribute the gel. A little product goes a long way!
Remember when “Red High Heels” songstress, Kellie Pickler, chopped off her gorgeous blonde locks in solidarity because her best friend had breast cancer? What an inspirational gesture! Today, her hair has grown back and she is rocking the chic-est little bob! Thinking of going shorter for the new year? This is one trendy cut you’ll want to bring in to your hairstylist!
Never be afraid to ask your hairstylist for styling tips, or for their suggestions on how a certain style would look on you! That is something they are trained to know about, so allow them to use their expertise and enjoy your new look!
Happy 2015! @TieraBolt
