Country music duo, Jon Stone and Kristy Osmunson, collectively known as American Young, have been on the Nashville scene for quite some time. While Jon was formerly a solo act, songwriting for some of the genre’s biggest names (you might have heard of Rascal Flatts, Lee Brice, Kenny Chesney, and Blake Shelton???), Kristy was the dynamic fiddle player in the duo Bomshel. Lucky for us, the two have combined forces and are bringing us fresh, new music as a talented pair.
Yesterday, American Young released their new single “Wasn’t Gonna Drink Tonight,” which was co-written by Lee Brice. The song is a mellow tune that, not surprisingly, features quite a bit of fiddle, along with incomparable harmonies. The song tells the tale of a couple that recently broke up and is, quite obviously, not over one another. While the two are out with friends, expecting a low key, emotionless, and alcohol-free night, their lost love appears and all bets are off. Despite their best intentions for a night of sobriety, in order to avoid the pain of seeing the other one out, the only logical thing to do is drink, drink, and drink some more.
The chorus boasts “no, I wasn’t gonna drink tonight, I didn’t wanna see your eyes just here for a good time; no, I wasn’t gonna wanna fight, bustin’ up my knuckles on my truck, no I, I wasn’t gonna drink tonight.” Oh well, guys … the best laid plans!
American Young friend and colleague, Lee Brice, took to Twitter to announce the release of this single and encourage fans to support “Wasn’t Gonna Drink Tonight”:

We echo Lee’s sentiments and strongly suggest downloading this song, as this Nashville duo is undoubtedly about to make waves in country music and you are going to want to say you knew of them back when!
