It’s that time of the year again…when the leaves begin to change colors, the air feels crisp, you can break out that flannel shirt you just love, and BONFIRES! If you’re from the South like I am, you know this is the way of life in the fall for us. We gather with our friends in the middle of a field, someone lights the fire- usually in a burn barrel- everyone grabs a tailgate to sit on, you crack open a cold one, and someone starts blaring the music!
Here are 7 classic country songs that every bonfire needs:
Chicken Fried– Zac Brown Band
When this song came out, it was the jam of the South. No matter where I traveled, if it came on, you turned it all the way up and sang along. It speaks about the bonfire life in its lyrics- “And a cold beer on a Friday night, a pair of jeans that fit just right, and the radio on.” I don’t think ZBB could have summed it up better.
Small Town USA– Justin Moore
Justin Moore grasped the essence of small town life in this song. If you are from a small town, you can’t help but allow this song to tug at your heart stings a little!! He sums up a country night perfectly in the lyrics of “ Give me a Saturday night, my baby by my side, a little Hank Jr. and a 6 pack of light…”
Play Something Country– Brooks and Dunn
I know, your heart just did a minor backflip when you saw the name Brooks and Dunn!! Oh, how we miss this record-breaking duo on our radios! This song gives more of a party and fun vibe to the bonfire mix! Who can forget the famous “Ah-hooooooo play something country in this song?”
Kick it in The Sticks– Brantley Gilbert
This Georgia boy definitely knows a thing or two about a bonfire and how to “Kick it in the Sticks’. No bonfire is successful without at least one play of this song. It’s like an anthem of loving to live life in a field with your buddies! He tells us “ We hang out by the bonfire, just some good ol boys having a dang good time…”
Song of the South– Alabama
Alabama knows country music and this is a classic. The title explains it all; it is the “Song of the South”. I bet you never forgot the lyrics of “sweet potato pie and I shut my mouth”? It’s a definite go to when hanging out with your buddies on a Saturday night.
Family Tradition– Hank Williams Jr.
Alright, let’s be honest, you usually can’t go to a country concert without hearing this song being played between sets. It’s a staple of country music. Everyone knows it and everyone sings it! “Why must you live out the songs you wrote?” because it’s a “Family Tradition.”
Bonfire– Craig Morgan
The list would not be complete without the actual song “Bonfire”!
In the words of Craig Morgan,
“Hold up your cup and take another swig, won’t sleep til dawn, party right down to the wire…at the BONFIRE!!”
Happy fall y’all!! What are some of your favorite “Bonfire” songs?
