It’s no secret that Beyonce is the undisputed Queen of pop music, but what happens when your favorite country acts decide to tackle Queen Bee herself? Watch some of our favorite Beyonce country covers below!
1. Sugarland – Irreplaceable
Believe it or not, “Irreplaceable” was almost a country hit as Ne-Yo, one of the writers originally intended it for a female artist like Faith Hill or Shania Twain. However, Beyonce got her hands on it and the rest is history. That was the case until Sugarland claimed it as their own, adding it as a permanent feature to their setlists for many a-shows. At the 2007, American Music Awards, the duo even performed the track with Beyonce herself.
2. Reba – If I Were A Boy
Beyonce released and recorded “If I Were A Boy” in 2008, but the queen of country herself decided to make it her own in 2010, recording the track for her 2010 album, All the Women I Am. While there’s no denying Beyonce’s talent, Reba took the song, countrified it and made us say “Beyonce- who?”
3. Danny Gokey – Single Ladies (Mashed up with Brian McKnight’s “Back At One”)
While Danny Gokey has dabbled in country music, he decided to interject Beyonce’s hit “Single Ladies” into his cover of Brian McKnight’s “Back at One.” Pay close attention to this video and you may spot 2 #CMChat favorites, Brandon and Jamelle Fraley of Two Story Road!
4. Kelly Clarkson – Halo (Mashed up with her hit “Already Gone”)
There was much controversy surrounding Kelly Clarkson‘s hit “Already Gone” and Beyonce’s hit “Halo,” as ol’ KC claimed OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder gave Beyonce the same musical track after also giving it to her. While he denied it, Clarkson seamlessly mixed “Halo” into “Already Gone,” proving that Tedder’s Halo was a wee bit tarnished.
5. Ed Sheeran – Drunk In Love
While Ed Sheeran may not be completely country, he’s got that whole sensitive acoustic vibe thing going and is BFFs with Taylor Swift, so it’s safe to say that country music would love to adopt him. Watch as he flawlessly covers Beyonce’s “Drunk in Love” on Elvis Duran and the Morning Show.
6. Jewel & Beyonce – Proud Mary
It may not be a country cover of a Beyonce song per se, but watch as the unlikely pairing of Beyonce and Jewel take on the Ike & Tina Turner classic, “Proud Mary.” It’s hard to imagine Jewel and Beyonce singing together, but it works!
7. John Mayer – XO
John Mayer is best-known for his skills on the guitar and his torrid romantic entanglements, but he’s also shared the stage with country greats like Brad Paisley and Keith Urban. After Mayer added Beyonce’s “XO” to his set, the soft acoustic version garnered such buzz that he recorded it and this version just may top Beyonce’s.
