They say it’s lonely up at the top, but not for these longtime friends.
Blake Shelton’s and Ashley Monroe’s “Lonely Tonight” has reached the top spot on the Mediabase and Billboard charts at last, giving these two close friends something to celebrate. Though it took awhile longer than anticipated (and than it should have, considering the caliber of the song), Blake and Ashley can rest a little easier knowing that they are the most popular song in country music this week … and that Blake’s stellar streak will continue.
Just edging out Thomas Rhett’s “Make Me Wanna,” the track that ranked supreme over all others last week, “Lonely Tonight” rose to the occasion and secured Blake’s nineteenth Number 1 song, with fourteen of those hits being in succession (beginning with “Hillbilly Bone” in 2009).
This week’s honors for “Lonely Tonight” do not stop there. The song is also the most played and most heard song, receiving 7,788 spins and 61.24 million audience impressions during the tracking week (February 22-28). “Make Me Wanna” stepped down to Number 2 with 7,690 spins and 59.10 million audience impressions.
In discussing his latest Number 1, Blake stated:
What I’m most excited about with this particular song is that it’s the launch of Ashley Monroe’s solo career and she’s so talented and deserves this opportunity. That’s really the highlight of this one for me is to see her finally getting the credit she’s deserved for a long time.
It’s so incredible to see my name aside his at the #1 spot on the chart. Since I was a little girl it’s been my dream to be a part of country radio and this is truly a dream come true for me.
“Lonely Tonight” can be found on Blake Shelton’s most recent album Bringing Back the Sunshine, which you can download using the iTunes banner below.
