Oh Blake Shelton…Our favorite red-red-red-red-redneck is back with new music…and we love it!
We’re just over a month from the release of Blake Shelton’s new album, Bringing Back the Sunshine, due out September 30th. Today, we got a taste of what to expect from the new Shelton, as the album’s first single “Neon Light” world premiered on iHeartRadio.
In case you were counting, Shelton’s last twelve singles have all hit #1, which is a record for consecutive chart-toppers. Eventually, his streak has to end, but I doubt that will be the case with “Neon Light,” which is clearly poised to be lucky number thirteen.
The track kicks off with a twangy guitar and is a perfect mix of classic Shelton with what’s currently hot in country music. Think “Sure Be Cool If You Did” tossed in a blender with the wordplay of “Boys Round Here” and the full twang and humor of “Some Beach.” This track is Shelton at his finest, a humorous ode to finding the “Neon Light” at the “end of the tunnel” after being done wrong. It’s a heartbreak song about drinking, moving on and flat out showing off Shelton’s resounding country voice.
“There’s a neon light at the end of the tunnel,” he growls. “It ain’t that bright/but even though it’s subtle/it’s got me feeling all right/go on make it a double/there’s a neon light at the end of the tunnel.” The track continues as the man done wrong is going to wash down his heartbreak with a “pitcher of someone new.”
It’s catchy, twangy and straight up country, just like Blake Shelton!
