After the release of Blake Shelton’s album Bringing Back the Sunshine and the rise of singles “Neon Light” and “Lonely Tonight” to the top of the charts, one burning question persisted amongst country music fans: what will be Blake’s next hit release? Jumping the gun, perhaps, by assuming that the next single will climb to “hit” status, but all signs point to inevitable considering Blake’s current streak of his last fourteen singles going to Number 1.
The question in everybody’s minds was answered this week when a clip of Blake’s next music video circulated around the Internet, implying the third single off the chart-topping album would be the sexy and sultry “Sangria.” Already turning heads and widening eyes, “Sangria” has intoxicated fans with a steamy fifteen-second clip of the video that is about to cross the border into territories few have gone before.
A seductive track, “Sangria” is an ode to the woman on Blake’s arm who accompanies him while the two are drunk on wine and on one another. The tune is slow and methodical, exuding a tropical vibe coupled with a sensual sound, combining to create a balance of a lustful and love-filled song in one. The suggestive chorus goes:
We’re buzzing like that no vacancy sign out front. Your skin is begging to be kissed by a little more than the sun. You take my hand in yours, you lean in and your lips taste like sangria, your lips taste like sangria, your lips taste like sangria.
On point with his most recent Number 1 (featuring Ashley Monroe), Blake continues to go against the grain with his singles, detouring from the direction country music is moving toward as a general whole and remaining true to his instincts. Considering his fourteen-track run to the top of the charts, those instincts haven’t steered Blake wrong yet, and it is only a matter of time before the record he currently holds for most consecutive Number 1’s increases and he sips a celebratory sangria.
