Bradley Mitchell is known for his drinking, temper and love of women. However, the man you see every Thursday night on CMT’s Party Down South 2 has way more to offer than just partying.
I bet you didn’t know Bradley is a father? How about a DJ?
That’s right, these days Bradley is leaving the love triangle behind him to focus on a more positive endeavor…his dreams. Bradley recently released a mixtape via Soundcloud where he took popular country tracks, such as Big & Rich’s “Look At You” and Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places,” and mixed them with a back beat. It’s a 32 minute long party track and you get your favorite country songs with a beat that you just can’t help but dance to…or twerk! Wait, maybe that’s just me?
I caught up with Bradley to find out more about his vision as he continues to pursue this dream of his.
1. Where did the inspiration to do this come from? When did you realize this is something you wanted to do?
I started Promoting clubs at the age of 18 years old. I would book DJ’s left and right and throw some of Mississippi’s wildest parties and bring some of the best local talent around. One night we had an opening spot for a DJ and I had never done it before but wanted to get the feel of it, So I got a buddy of mine to teach me the basics and I got up there and did the unthinkable and the venue went nuts.. it was a high that I had never felt before and I knew that day forward that being a DJ was my calling. I love being the center of attention and the life of the party. I practiced and practiced and practiced until i was able to transition music on my own. my skill level just sky rocketed from there and then I remember waking up one day to 4 dates on the table and realized that my goals of a DJ were finally coming true. I was literally eating , sleeping and practicing on my board. I couldn’t believe the progression levels that I had mastered over just a short period of time and before you know it I was playing everywhere. I had finally fulfilled my dream and now I was officially DJ Camo, one of the best entertaining DJ’s in the game.
2. Do you think being on CMT’s Party Down South 2 gave you a platform to fulfill this dream?
I already had big plans and the motivation I needed to pursue my dream as a DJ but one day I got a confirmation call assuring my presence on CMT’s hit reality show Party Down South 2. At the time I was more dialed in on the life I had ahead of me but then I gave it some real thought and I realized that this would be the extra networking that I needed to fulfill my dream as a successful touring DJ across the world. So I would say all of my thanks would definitely go to CMT and 495 productions for allowing me to be a part of one of the fastest growing and best reality television shows in CMT’s history.
3. How did you decide what songs you would use on this mixtape?
I knew on my first mix tape drop that I wanted to mix the best possible hit songs out so people didn’t have to use pandora or even scroll through a play list and play different songs. I targeted the hottest songs out and went for it, with the help of my production associate DJ Capone, I was able to put together one of the fastest viewing playlists on sound cloud. My plan worked and before you knew it I was at 7000 hits in less than 1 week.
4. Some people would say that country music is fine how it is and it should be left alone. What was your vision when adding the beats? What exactly did you want to achieve with this?
I am branded as a country DJ and people could just go to a concert to hear a country singer of their choice and I wanted to mix a little up beat tempo with country music that could also be danced to and played across radio stations and clubs all over the world.. it was something super different and I attacked it head on.
5. How have fans responded to the mixtape?
Fans have responded very well to my mix tape, It’s actually taken me by surprise how fast almost 9000 hits could take place in the matter of 2 weeks and I thank my fans tremendously for the love and support. I can only hope the next mix tape drop is a even bigger success, targeting mud bogs with a little hick hop. (laughs)
6. What is your end goal? Where do you see yourself going with this?
I see myself touring with hit artist and being one of the best country branded DJ’s around the world. I wanna go down in history for one of the most successful DJ’s on the planet and I want more love and support to be sent to the troops who are fighting for our freedom. I want people to see our troops in the vision of my country mixes and my DJ name (CAMO) I support the troops 100 percent and I will back our nation until the day I spin myself in the ground.
