Brandy Clark. How do we love thee? Let us count the ways.
The 12 Stories singer/songwriter has been a Country Music Chat #CMchat favorite for quite some time. We see the inimitable talent in Brandy and are so happy that the industry is, likewise, taking notice, as she was nominated for CMA New Artist of the Year. Of course, considering our love for Brandy and her entire album, front to back, it is ever-so-exciting to turn on the radio as of late and hear “Crazy Women” blaring through the speakers.
Crazy Women, written by Brandy, Jessie Jo Dillon, and the highly acclaimed Shane McAnally, and previously recorded by LeAnn Rimes, shares examples of just how crazy a woman can be driven … if a man grabs the steering wheel and takes her there. The chorus warns, “crazy women, ex-wives and old girlfriends, keep their crazy hidden till they’re pushed off the deep end; oh yeah, God forgive them, they weren’t born like this; oh no, crazy women are made by crazy men.”
The song hones in on a typical country song theme, and that is lying and cheating. However, what makes this track unique to its predecessors is that Brandy Clark has her hands in the pot. Plain and simple. Brandy has a knack for making a complex song sound incredibly simple, cloaking a packed instrumental supplementation with the indicia of an acoustic backing. Couple the seemingly simple melody with clever lyrics delivered by Brandy’s vocals and the combination is fail-safe every time.
Listen to “Crazy Women” below and let us know what you think of the newest release from the amazing Brandy Clark and her album 12 Stories.
