Review: @BrookeEdenMusic at the South Florida Fair

Brooke Eden is a little bit country, a little bit rock ‘n’ roll, and a whole lot of talent jam-packed into a pint-sized package of girl power. A South Florida native, Brooke was welcomed home from her current residency in Nashville, Tennessee, as she took over the main stage at the South Florida Fair and performed a lengthy set, never once losing an ounce of her energy. Brooke’s setlist was cleverly crafted with original songs laced between a selection of cover songs that could have been written for Brooke herself. The interplay between covers and originals ensured that the audience’s excitement never waned and that the crowd was glued to every song, anticipating what would come next.

Brooke opened the show with Gretchen Wilson’s “Here For the Party” and immediately shared her energy with the audience, proving that the choice to stop in on a cold South Florida night was a wise one, indeed. Brooke showed her versatility throughout her entire show, covering soloists, duos, and groups without fail. From The Band Perry to Florida Georgia Line to Adele to Big and Rich, Brooke captivated her audience, bringing the heat to a winter night as she danced around the stage with a presence comparable to the incredible Miranda Lambert.

Brooke Eden Show Review

Brooke’s original songs made me scramble to figure out where I could pick up a copy of her EP and where I could find the remainder of her music that has not yet been distributed. Specifically, my favorite originals were “American Dreamin’,” “Daddy’s Money,” and “I Took Your Picture Down Today.” Brooke, once again, showed just how talented she is as she picked up her gorgeous guitar and belted out the “Picture” lyrics, written by Will Rambeaux and Liz Sharp (of Little Feathered). And this blonde bombshell’s talents don’t end right there … she writes also. Exhibiting a great personality and sense of humor, Brooke explained that her song “Move My Way” was written about a guy she saw in a bar who clearly had “no game” and wouldn’t approach her, despite staring at her all night. The little country starlet pulled a Colt Ford in this song, country rapping about the guy getting in her “grill.” Brooke also performed “Whiskey Talking,” which is about the consequences related to a night where too much drinking was involved (which Brooke qualified as something everyone has experienced) and “Lock It Up” which was written about Brooke’s cousin (who was in the audience) about her six year relationship. Brooke explained that this is her “Beyonce song” and that her cousin’s boyfriend hadn’t “put a ring on it” after six years and it was either time to lock it up or let her go. ***Caveat – He did, in fact, put a ring on it and they are getting married this year!***

The highlights of the show (aside from the stellar originals) were, undoubtedly, Brooke’s covers of “Crazy” by Patsy Cline and “Cowboy’s Sweetheart” by Patsy Montana. Brooke’s vocals were taken to a new level when she conquered the late, great Patsy Cline’s infamous song. As she belted this gorgeous ballad, it was a wonder why this amazing talent is not already on our radio stations and climbing the charts. Toward the end of her set, Brooke blew us away with her cover of “Cowboy’s Sweetheart,” complete with beautiful and effortless yodeling throughout. Brooke most certainly did the Patsies proud!

It would not be shocking to find Brooke Eden in the next wave of young country acts breaking into the scene. She encapsulates everything you would want in a performer and more. She comes out the gate with a one-two punch and takes her audience on a strategized roller coaster ride of musical twists, turns, ups, and downs.
