What the Buck? @BillyRayCyrus and Buck 22 Record Hip-Hop “Achy Breaky Heart” Sequel

Like daughter, like father?

That’s the question I’m asking myself after watching the newest video to feature Billy Ray Cyrus.

Outside of being Miley’s dad, we of course know Cyrus most for his 1992 crossover hit “Achy Breaky Heart,” which made line dancing hip and was the first Country single to go Platinum since “Islands in the Stream.”

Did you ever get that chorus out of your head? Well it’s back, sort of. Rapper Buck 22 recorded “Achy Breaky 2” and brought Billy Ray on board to add that familiar hook. And they made a video which has a Miley-like vibe all over it.

Larry King warns us of a UFO flying overhead. A techno beat mixes with rapping to the classic tune, and some nearly nude aliens twerking and smoking hookahs. Billy Ray even gets in a “Wrecking Ball” as an ode to his daughter. This collaboration is all sorts of trippy. And when I say that I mean that I actually gave myself a drug test after watching this just to make sure that I wasn’t on any hallucinogens.

“Achy Breaky Heart” was originally recorded as “Don’t Tell My Heart” by The Marcy Brothers one year before Cyrus’ retitled version became a smash. It’s been parodied by “Weird Al” Yankovic, covered by Alvin and the Chipmunks, and now this “sequel” song adds, well, something to its legacy.

Did Miley have an influence over her Dad or was he just trying to do something fun and different? Check out the video and judge for yourself.
