With a voice that recalls the heyday of country music at its finest, Cam is a breath of fresh air in a sea of pop country crossover and bro bravado. Country Music #CMChat first caught wave of Cam (Camaron Ochs) when her song “Down This Road” was given some major airplay on Nashville’s New Country: The BIG 98 WSIX last year. However, since nabbing some major market airplay as an indie artist, the curly-haired dynamo has gone on to score a record deal with Arista Nashville.
Born and raised in Southern California, Cam’s music spans inspirations ranging from palm trees to horses and a tractor known as Big Red. According to her official bio, “Her storyteller lyrics walk a romantic line between worldly wisdom and Disney charm, and judging by her fan base this sort of thing appeals to all of us.”
With that description in mind, Cam is one of country music’s most exciting new artists, ushering in a new generation of females to country radio with the support of Sony Music Nashville and her new label Arista Nashville. She is currently working on her debut album with Grammy®-winning producer Jeff Bhasker (Bruno Mars, Beyoncé, FUN., The Rolling Stones, Taylor Swift) and Tyler Johnson (Ed Sheeran, OneRepublic, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Mikky Ekko).
In addition to storming the country world, she’s a prolific songwriter, having had cuts by Maggie Rose and even a dabbling in pop on Miley Cyrus’ platinum smash album, Bangerz. Additionally, in 2013, she crowd-funded an independent album on KickStarter, raising over $11,000 for the project.
The singer-songwriter has already toured with Dan + Shay on 2014’s Where It All Began Tour and is currently embarking on her own radio promotion tour in support of her debut single “My Mistake,” hitting country radio on February 3rd. In the meantime, you can catch Cam’s “Down This Road” kicking off Spotify’s Spotlight on 2015 – Country playlist.
