In the music industry you’re often darned if you do or darned if you don’t and the latest star to be victim to this is Carrie Underwood for her new song “Something in the Water.” because critics and atheists are saying it’s crossing the line with faith. Wait…whaaat? Considering country music used to be the safe haven for expressing your faith.
But Carrie is not backing down from the Christian connections the song has. The very obvious Christian song confronts the reality of God, conversion, and baptism. So I mean I guess if you’re an atheist then you can’t relate…but surely there are plenty of other songs we can’t relate to for a variety of reasons so why single out this one?
Carrie isn’t bashful when addressing the haters of the song when she said: “I’m not the first person to sing about God, Jesus, faith [or] any of that, and I won’t be the last, the Blaze reported. “And it won’t be the last for me, either. If you don’t like it, change the channel.” Underwood’s intention for the song is to convey the message that God improves the lives of those who follow Him. “It’s really kind of a joyous, uplifting song about changing your life for the better and kind of having that ‘a-ha’ moment, to waking up and your life being different from that moment forward,” Underwood said.
The country singer was inspired to write this song just days after her own baptism symbolizing her solid commitment to Christ.
Carrie hopes her message is far reaching and touches the hearts of those that need it most.
And isn’t that what music is all about? Regardless of what side of the fence you fall in? Just my two cents worth.
