You won’t be in a room with Chris Young for long, in a concert or otherwise, when he doesn’t mention his supportive mother, laugh about his dad, or mention his sister or niece. Family is at the center of what he does and this year he is lending his baritone voice to those that weren’t born as fortunate. “Home for the Holidays With Celine Dion” is running its 15 year and brings needed attention to children that were adopted from the foster care system. The show features music and inspirational stories with the ultimate goal of helping the more than 400000 foster children that need a place to permanently call home.
My family is no stranger to foster care or adoption. My parents received an award a few years back for being the longest standing foster parents in the state of Arizona. They unselfishly gave of themselves for years changing many lives along the way. They inspired others to do the same. Just last month my sister adopted 3 sweet children from foster care. They were all siblings and she got the first boy and girl when they were just 2 and 3 years old. When the baby was born they asked my sister if she would like to keep this family unit together. After a moment of consideration she picked up the angelic baby from the hospital and became the only mom she ever knew. Giving love and stability to a child is an immeasurable gift.
During Wednesdays special, Chris will be debuting his new single “Who I Am With You”, a song that speaks to the feelings you get when you are connected and in love with someone. The song is catchy, relatable and its just sweet. “Who I Am With You” dropped to radio yesterday, December 16, 2013. With proper radio play and his fantastic fan base this song will likely climb the charts very quickly.
Take the time to watch this special. Its so vitally important. Maybe it will move you to adopt. Maybe it will move you to keep foster kids or donate time and money. Either way it challenges us to step outside our own world and realize there are so many needs in our own community. There is nothing more satisfying than giving a child a chance at a new life…one where they are loved and safe. After all is said and done, family and giving are what the holiday season is all about.
“Home for the Holidays with Celine Dion” airs Wednesday December 18 at 8pmET on CBS.
You can download his single or purchase the whole album A.M. on itunes.
