Once upon a time, Chuck Wicks was “Stealing Cinderella.” Then things went awry and he was pleading for them to just be “Us Again.” Now, he’s ready to enjoy a “Saturday Afternoon.”
Wicks has just released his newest single for your listening pleasure via social media, and we have to wonder why he isn’t one of the biggest stars in country music. He’s got an incredible voice, isn’t too hard on the eyes and consistently puts out good songs. “Saturday Afternoon” is no exception.
The track is a breezy ode to kicking back and enjoying a Saturday afternoon with a country girl by his side. Think Kenny Chesney at his finest or Jake Owen‘s “Beachin'” minus the weird rapping. It’s an easy-listen that makes you want to slam closed your laptop, hop in a truck and hit a dirt road, but not in a toolish bro-country sorta way. It’s simple, it’s enjoyable and it’s the perfect soundtrack for a fall weekend.
“I feel like the whole wide world is shining down on me,” Wicks sings casually. “Right off a county road seven with a little piece of heaven.” Props for a reference to “cherry chapstick” as well. Take that, Katy Perry!
Both “Saturday Afternoon” and “Us Again” are set for an upcoming release by Wicks on Blaster records. His version of “I Don’t Do Lonely Well,” which appeared on Jason Aldean‘s Night Train record, and was written by Wicks, is also slated to appear on that forthcoming album.
“Saturday Afternoon” will be available for download on iTunes on October 21st.
