What a year it was for country music in 2013. We heard all kinds of different sub genres of country enter into mainstream radio while introducing new artists. 2013 has made country music bigger than ever. With new artists on the rise, we at Country Music Chat aka #CMchat can’t wait to see what 2014 has in store for us.
Here is our “Country Cadre” group list of #CMchat’s 20 Ones To Watch in 2014.
The Cadillac Three
A unique southern rock sound they call country fuzz is something we may just hear more of in 2014. With a front man like successful singer/songwriter Jaren Johnston and the release of their current single, “The South” featuring Dierks Bentley and Florida Georgia Line, these boys are proving they are here to stay.
Here’s a Twangout we did with them in 2012. Need to schedule another one soon!
With a new song, Raised On It, getting regular airplay on Sirius XM’s The Highway and leading off his future 2014 album release. This new Jack Johnson meets OneRepublic country music sound is unique enough to settle in a listener’s ears. He’s already proven himself as a songwriter penning hits for Keith Urban (“Cop Car”), Kenny Chesney (“Come Over”), and Billy Currington (We Are Tonight”).
With country music heading in a different direction, don’t think for a second that traditional country is out. We all still love that traditional country sound and Ray Scott may be the one to revitalize it. He’s had a couple recent singles land in regular rotation on Sirius XM’s The Highway this year and has a new album coming in 2014.
Will be doing a #CMchat Twitterview with him in March/April TBA.
The king of country hick-hop will have an even bigger year in 2014 than he had this year. Hes paving the way for others behind him. He enjoyed his biggest year yet tour yet making many tv appearances, a few hit singles, releasing a revamped album release and topping it off with touring with Florida Georgia Line. He ain’t done yet! Keep your ears open for Colt in 2014.

No doubt about it. 2014 will be her year. With co-writes like “Better Dig Two” (The Band Perry), “Follow Your Arrow” (Kacey Musgraves) and “Mama’s Broken Heart” (Miranda Lambert) and her own song “Stripes” getting rave reviews it will be no surprise that Brandy will be one everyone is talking about next year.

Country Artists Jon Stone and Kristy Osmunson form the new country duo American Young. They are seasoned veterans on how music can inherently affect emotion and even culture. The collaborative fresh new duo already claim songwriting credits for hit makers Kenny Chesney, Lee Brice, Rascal Flatts, Blake Shelton and more. They recently released their single “Love Is War” and will debut their album in 2014. It’s always good to see songwriters get their shot in the limelight.

Recently added by Bigger Picture and releasing their debut EP, BJB has quite a unique sound to go along with modern country today. They know how to work Twitter by interacting with their fans which only strengthens a fan base and we’re guessing that the debut Get Some EP is only a preview of what is yet to come. Keep your ears out for this hot new band.
She can straight up sing. Seriously. She made some noise with her single “Fishin for Something” earlier this year. She has a voice as smooth as Carrie Underwood and a new album coming out in 2014.
Chart-topping Stoney Creek Records act Parmalee has maintained the #1 position on the Mediabase/ Country Aircheck chart for two consecutive weeks with the smash single “Carolina.” The hit single was also certified GOLD by the RIAA after surpassing 500,000 in sales recently. The band’s album, Feels Like Carolina has captured the attention of some of music’s most prominent tastemakers, making them a one to watch in 2014.
Coming off such a hot year due to his co-write of one of the biggest singles ever in country music (“Cruise“) and released his EP which has produced two hit singles. Rice is set to keep his flame lit by going out on a headlining tour to promote his current album and reach a larger audience.

Dee Jay Silver
Probably the most unique sound to hit country music fans’ ears ever. Dee Jay Silver is the first country DJ to be signed to a major Nashville label. His live performances entertained millions in 2011 and 2012, touring with Jason Aldean. Back again, Jason has included Dee Jay Silver in his high octane 2013 Night Train tour. Silver’s high-energy performances get the crowds moving, whether in stadiums or at top clubs and parties throughout North America. His current album Country Club is worth a listen and gets us amped to see what he will bring in 2014.

Country music is always welcoming cross overs — even from television actresses. The Pretty Little Liars cast member is trying her hands at country music, and is fitting right in. She can expect a big year as she can guarantee a ton of hype from her PLL obsessed fans. We know we’ll be waiting for her album!

It’s nice to see songwriters get their shot at the limelight. Having written hits for artists like Lady A, Eli Young Band, and Jake Owen, his first single “Friday Night” has everyone wanting more from him in 2014.

He’s already had two great singles in Missin’ You Crazy and Up All Night. And with a new album coming out in January, this hit melody maker is eyeing a big 2014. We are totally excited about what Jon has in store for the new year.

She’s one half of country duo Steel Magnolia and is bracing herself with a solo career. With her new single, “Counting Stars“, she’s proving she’s ready to step out of the box and make her own style of country music which will totally catch on with mainstream country today. 2014 will be a big year for Meghan.

Jamie Lynn Spears
Kid sister to Britney Spears, Jamie Lynn is ready to take on 2014 and make a name for herself. She recently proved her singing ability with her lead off single “How Could I Want More” from her future debut album which will be released in 2014. You’ll be hearing more from Jamie Lynn next year.

I know what you’re thinking. He isn’t new. But he’s recently new to a solo career. Basically leaving Brooks and Dunn behind him (for now) Ronnie has released a few singles that she his romantic side and an edgy side you dot want to mess with. We are too excited as to what Ronnie Dunn is going to bring in 2014. Watch out!

A catchy single right at the end of the year makes us want to hear more from this singer/songwriter. The catchy track titled “Famous” could be a very good indicator of the type of career this new comer will have.

If you’re following closely, then you know this is the 21st One to Watch for us in 2014, but I just couldn’t leave her off the list. With such a powerful and smooth voice, I just can’t understand how she isn’t more famous than she already is. With the release of her new album, Fall Into Me, it’s clear Katie Armiger has come of age. The album, a work of stunning maturity, also reflects the accomplished young star’s deepening confidence in her own abilities.
2013 was definitely the year of the male country artist, but looking at our list of ones to watch for next year, it looks like 2014 could shape up to be a big deal for women in country music. What do you think? Who’d we miss?
