CMT Honors Artists of the Year

It was definitely a year for the male artist. CMT celebrated country music’s top Artists of the Year of 2013 on Tuesday, December 3 and it was a night to honor these artists. The top artists included Tim McGraw, Florida Georgia Line, Luke Bryan, Hunter Hayes and Jason Aldean.

Aldean was grateful to be part of the mix, “It’s really cool to be part of this fraternity and what’s going on in Nashville right now, and country music is one of the coolest things in the world.” He goes on to say, “I’m glad to be a part of it. I’m glad people like what I do.”

Jason was honored by Cassadee Pope and Travis Tritt who performed the singer’s “Night Train“.

Florida Georgia Line had a total breakout year as they crushed many records with their infectious hit single, “Cruise“, which went five-times platinum and later was remixed with rapper Nelly. It didn’t stop there for the country duo as they’ve had hit after hit since while selling out concerts night after night. The band played their current smash single, “Stay“, that night.

Tim McGraw had a nice year enjoying a number one album and platinum selling single. Perhaps the most notable moment for him this year was breaking away from longtime label Curb Records making Big Machine his new home. Tim has been around awhile and has been at the top many times before, but he continues to work hard.

“The new artists that are coming along are making great music,” McGraw says. “…that’s what keeps me going and that’s what inspires me to make music. They teach me something every time I see them on tour … or every time I spend a few minutes sitting and talking with somebody. Every time I hear one of their records, it inspires me to go back in the studio and make better records and get better at what I do…”

Lady Antebellum made an appearance by performing Tim McGraw’s “Highway Don’t Care” featuring Peter Frampton on guitar.

The night was full of performances which included Hunter Hayes teaming up with Train lead singer Pat Monahan to sing “I Want Crazy” and “Hey Soul Sister“. And then there was Luke Bryan finishing up the night with Lionel Richie performing “Oh No” and “All Night Long“.

Even with FGL having their breakout year, it’s too close to call who had the biggest year when it comes to Luke Bryan whose new album topped the country charts, topped the Billboard 200 and became the third highest in sales for the year. He also earned ACM’s Entertainer of the Year. And if it wasn’t his music getting all of the attention, then it was most likely his @$$ shaking on stage.

Although dudes prevailed victors in the country radio battle of the sexes category, it shouldn’t go without mentioning that Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and Taylor Swift put up a fight on the female side as they were the most hyped up women of country radio.
