Meaningful lyrics and soulful singing are what attracted Meghan Linsey (one half of Steel Magnolia) to country music in the first place. With influences like Tanya Tucker, Patty Loveless, and Dolly Parton you can hear the classic sound in her voice.
Meghan got her first big break when she won CMT’s Can You Duet with future Steel Magnolia member at the time Joshua Scott Jones. In short, the duo went on to win many awards and opened for and toured with huge country acts. During all the success, Linsey and Scott formed a romantic relationship, which ultimately ended after awhile.
Although they split, the two still perform and tour as Steel Magnolia, but Linsey is ready to trudge the road to a solo career.
I had the privilege to interview Meghan, so if you’ve ever wanted to get to know the blonde bombshell country singer a bit better, then here’s your chance!
After winning the show you had great success with your show partner, Joshua Scott Jones, as Steel Magnolia and a relationship eventually blossomed from it. Is it weird touring together now that you aren’t dating each other anymore? What’s your relationship like with each other now?
It was a little strange at first, but it’s really gotten a lot easier. I don’t think people realize that we’ve actually been broken up personally for over two years now. Our relationship now, as weird as it sounds, is more of a brother/sister dynamic. We care about each other a lot, and only want the best for each other.
Do your significant others mind you both touring together on the same bus?
I have a really awesome boyfriend. He’s very confident and not jealous at all. I’m sure it was probably strange for him at first, but he knows that it’s my job. He’s in the business too, so that helps.
I heard Steel Magnolia is working on a new album. Is that true? If so, when can we expect to hear it?
We were working on something. It’s just really hard for us to finish anything. We’ve both been working on solo projects, so that’s where our energy has been.
Can you talk about your upcoming solo album?
It’s been very rewarding to work on my own record. I’ve had a lot to write about and I didn’t hold back. The songs are VERY honest. I cannot tell you how excited I am about the production too! Tyler Cain is the next big producer in town. He’s just such an incredible and innovative musician. It sounds so soulful and fresh!
Will it be a different sound from Steel Magnolia?
I think there will be elements of Steel Magnolia, but I definitely let loose more on this project.
Rumor has it that you are/were going to be on a reality show for A&E. Can you shed some light on this
We were going to, but it just didn’t work out.
CMchat Twangy Questions: If you could have one super power what would it be?
Umm… The power to be in more than one place at once! I have too much to do and not enough time! Also, the power to tune out everyone and everything all at once. I need to learn to relax!!! Lol
Beer or girly drinks?
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
I went Zip Lining in Gatlinburg yesterday. That was actually pretty risky for me! Ha! I know, BORING!
Have you ever been in a girl fight?
Yes, once, but don’t tell anybody.
How do you stay in shape?
I do hot yoga and kickbox, my trainer Veda is AMAZING!
