Country Music’s March Madness

march madness country music

When we think of the personal lives of today’s country music superstars, good times on back roads, hunting, fishing, drinking and college football often come to mind when reading about how they enjoy their time off. But many of our Country Music #CMchat favorites are also bonkers for the hooptastic action of March Madness.

And even if the team they are loyal to didn’t make it to the big dance (sorry David Nail, Mizzou will have better days…I’m a Syracuse fan so I’ve got my own issues) there’s still plenty to root for in week two of the NCAA tournament, unless you picked Villanova, Iowa State, Virginia, or Baylor to win it all. Those teams had about as much chance as “Girl Crush” by Little Big Town not being misinterpreted by casual country music listeners.

Looking at whose still in it, there’s a lot of fun country/pop culture match-ups to follow, like Scotty McCreery’s NC State vs. Jennifer Lawrence’s Louisville. Oklahoma natives Blake Shelton and the Swon Brothers may be rooting for the Sooners against Clayton Anderson, who appears to be all in for Michigan State. While Brad Paisley is likely rooting for his home-state team — West Virginia, they likely won’t be much of a challenge for Laura Bell Bundy’s Kentucky team. And then there’s the potential #CMChat battle between Jessica Northey’s Arizona Wildcats vs. Scott Bredin’s Wisconsin Badgers (sorry Scotty, I got Zona winning that one. If it’s any consolation, it should be the best game of the tournament).

Regardless of who you are rooting for this year, enjoy the action (and hopefully you’ll be able to get some bragging rights amongst your friends). Here are 7 quick clicks of what our country community are chirping about on Twitter  after the first two rounds. They all can’t be winners, but some will be happier than others on April 6th in Indianapolis.
