Craig Campbell recently stopped in Columbus, Ohio and took us all to church, literally the venue is a church. The Bluestone was full of country music lovers looking to have a good time and the acts provided just that.
Taking the stage first was country newcomer Sandra Lynn. You may have heard her song “Afterparty” on Sirius XM’s The Highway. She is definitely a voice to be reckoned with and she knows how to party. Her newest single “Bar Hoppin’” is a sassy song about girls going out to drink and let loose with friends. She was the only female performer of the night and she stood her ground well. Her vocals were on full display during her cover of Deana Carter’s “Strawberry Wine”. Sandra Lynn knows when to be vulnerable and when to take risks. That is what is going to take her career to the next level.
Dean Alexander is an artist that takes the stage and almost immediately exceeds your expectations. He has an extremely strong voice that leaves you wanting more. He makes it a point to get the crowd involved even if that means pointing out a pretty girl, acknowledging little kids, or even calling someone out for looking bored. My personal favorite was his performance of his new single “Life Ain’t Fair”, you can feel every line that he sings and he makes you believe them. There were some technical issues during the show and he worked through them like a champ, some fans were even oblivious to the fact. Dean is a master of his craft and there is no doubt that he is sticking around for the long run. He is open with his fans and doesn’t hold a single thing back. I will definitely be seeing him again.
It is a known fact that if an artist starts their set with Brooks & Dunn’s hit “Play Something Country” it is going to be a phenomenal show. Craig Campbell is like a firecracker on stage just waiting for the right time to explode. He keeps you on edge the entire time and keeps you wondering what’s next. His setlist is full of hit after hit including; “Outta My Head”, “Family Man”, and “Keep Them Kisses Comin’, so basically perfection. In the middle of the show he brought two girls on stage to sit at his piano bar and down some shots of moonshine with him, that is before he passed the jar around to the crowd.
While at the piano bar, Craig played a very spectacular and interesting medley consisting of Garth Brooks’ “The Dance” and Idina Menzel’s “Let it Go”. Obviously one is legendary, and the other is still stuck in his head thanks to his daughter. We were fortunate enough to hear the song that will be Craig’s next single, “Tomorrow Tonight”, it hits radio June 8th and it is incredible. It is a song about shaking off tomorrow, tonight. It is only right that Craig finishes his show with a song that causes the crowd to erupt, and that would be “Fish”. I was thoroughly impressed with the show and not only is he a great artist, he is a genuine man.
