As if winning season 7 of NBC’s The Voice under the watchful and helpful eye of Blake Shelton isn’t a big enough BANG! with which to send 2014 out, Craig Wayne Boyd has even more to celebrate before the curtain is drawn on the year that solidified his name on the country music map.
On the December 16th episode of The Voice, Craig sang his original song “My Baby’s Got a Smile on Her Face,” a song that Adam Levine called “one of the best songs I’ve ever heard in my life.” It appears that it wasn’t only Adam who went running to a pay phone after hearing Craig’s song, because Craig received more than enough votes to be crowned the winner. However, Craig’s successes relative to the track can be said to have only begun in that moment.
Craig’s new single, “My Baby’s Got a Smile on Her Face,” recently debuted on the Hot Country Songs chart at Number 1; marking only the second time in history that a song debuted in the top spot. The other artist to generate the buzz Craig has with a new song was Garth Brooks with his 2007 hit “More Than a Memory.”
Nielsen Music further reported that the single is also at the top of the Country Digital Songs list with 99,000 downloads sold, while Craig’s his cover of Alabama’s “In Pictures” is at Number 3 with 30,000 downloads and his Blake Shelton duet of Randy Houser’s “Boots On” is at Number 9 with 23,000 downloads. “Boots On” is also flying high on the Hot Country Songs chart a Number 33, respectively.
Not only will Craig end 2014 on a high note, he will begin 2015 with one as well. He will be making his Opry debut at the Ryman Auditorium on January 3rd.
It’s pretty safe to say that it isn’t only Craig’s baby who has a smile on her face. He should, likewise, be grinning ear-to-ear right now!
Congratulations to Craig! Country Music #CMchat wishes you ongoing success.
