Craig Wayne Boyd’s first single following his epic championship season on NBC’s The Voice is the song that Maroon 5 frontman, Adam Levine, wishes he had gotten his hands on first. An already Number 1 song, “My Baby’s Got a Smile on Her Face” was admittedly “one of the best songs I’ve ever heard in my life,” according to Levine, despite being penned by Levine’s faux show nemesis Blake Shelton.
Those folks over at The Voice certainly know success and further potential when they see it, because, faster than you could say the lengthy song title, they released Boyd’s official music video for the track. “My Baby’s Got a Smile on Her Face” is a song about a couple ridden with love and romance — yes, those songs do exist in country music! Boyd takes on the role of the man who brings joy and happiness to his partner, a woman who can’t help but keep a lovestruck grin on her gorgeous face because of that special someone in her life.
The video depicts Boyd and a blonde bombshell laying low, spending time at home in each others’ arms and simply enjoying one another’s presence. The two are clad in white, emanating an ease and gentleness about the perfectly harmonious partnership that is reflected in the lighthearted lyrics. Performance aspects of the video show off the edgy, fringe-laden musician that won the hearts and votes of America, promising that the man who graced our screens weekly on The Voice is the same artist we will be blessed with during his career.
The track itself is, as Levine eloquently stated, “one of the best songs I’ve ever heard in my life.” A considerably difficult task, Boyd makes Shelton’s “freakin’ hard to sing” song seem simple, as he delivers it with a level of comfort and familiarity that would lead one to believe he, himself, wrote the history-making release. Boyd takes us to church on this mid-tempo number by pouring the entirety of his being into the recording, holding nothing back and handling each note victoriously.
“My Baby’s Got a Smile on Her Face” will be released to radio in the near future, but, until that day, sit back, relax, and let the smile emerge on your face as you watch this video.
