In recent years, there has been no shortage of country superstars crossing over and having success on the pop music landscape. Taylor Swift is the most glaring example, but others who have done the same include Carrie Underwood, Lady Antebellum, Hunter Hayes and Rascal Flatts. While pop has basically adopted Taylor Swift, it’s been a little while since they stole another one of our artists…until now.
This morning, Dan + Shay appeared on Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, based out of NYC and syndicated across Top 40 Pop stations across the country. They talked about their humble beginnings in Dan’s apartment, touring with Blake Shelton and the crossover appeal of country music as a whole. They also performed their hit single “19 You + Me,” as well as an incredible cover of MAGIC’s “Rude.” And it’s safe to say that their laid back demeanors, good looks and incredible talent won over the Morning Show, as well as radio listeners across the country.
After listening to one of our own on such a huge pop station, it left me wondering if Dan + Shay would be the next country act we “lose” to pop music? From listeners’ response and their immediate gain of thousands of Twitter followers during the broadcast, it seems likely.

Dan + Shay have all the ingredients needed to be the perfect country crossover act. They’ve got a universal appeal, superb talent and music that’s just enough country to toe the line between pop and country. While “Cruise” crossed over a bit last summer thanks to Nelly, I think Dan + Shay are headed to pop radio sans a rapper, and that’s okay!
