There’s no denying that David Nail has one of the finest and most powerful voices in country music. Since exploding on the scene with 2009’s I’m About to Come Alive, Nail has honed his touring skills opening for the likes of Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker. This fall, however, Nail will flex his headliner muscles, hitting the road for his I’m A Fire Tour.
Nail spoke to Rolling Stone Country this morning, expressing his excitement about headlining his own tour, which is named after his phenomenal third album. “It’s so much fun to open up for big acts and know that there’s going to be 5, 10, or even 15,000 people out there when you play, but it’s always difficult to only play for 35 minutes,” he says. “I’ve always felt like we benefit so much more when we can really lay back and play an entire 75 to 90 minute show. We can show the range of the past three records.”
While Nail’s tour will criss-cross the country, he’s most excited (as is this #CMChat writer) for a November 9th stop at New York City’s Irving Plaza. “That’s the mecca for me. You move to Nashville to be a country music singer and I’d be lying if I said I thought I’d be playing New York City one day. I don’t think I even realized that country singers went to New York City,” Nail says to Rolling Stone Country. “I can remember the first time we played there, it was the most nervous I’d ever been. The label is there, you have a lot of press there, and fans. It’s like playing a showcase in Nashville except that you’re in the greatest city in the world. You try your best to treat it like any other show, but you know damn well it’s nothing like every other show.”
Nail will be joined on tour by rising country duo Native Run, who recently released their phenomenal “Good On You” EP. This is a tour not to be missed!
