Last year I did an article on the top 7 bands in the DMV area (DC/Maryland/Virginia). The article was a huge deal in the local market. I had bands from all over the area contact me wanting me to come out and see their shows. I decided to follow up with one of the bands from my top 7 list.
Dean Crawford & The Dunn’s River Band were doing a show at Rainbow Road, a local bar that is well known in this area. Patsy Cline use to perform here and it’s the place to be especially if you are a fan of line dancing. The band has a wide array of talent. Dean Crawford is the leading man, however, the entire band stands out. Kenny Wise, who is a co-founder, plays guitar, mandolin, fiddle and is also a solid vocalist. Bobby Lawrence is quite the drummer and let’s not forget Billy Coley’s amazing steel guitar skills. You also have Bobby Murphy on the lead guitar and Mike Clark on the bass. Last but not least would be Mike Chakwin with his exceptional keyboarding skills.
You see, Crawford and his band are well-known around here. He has well over 5,000 Facebook followers just on his private page alone. His band page has over 3,000 followers as well. So it was really no surprise to see a packed house Saturday night when they performed. The band does plenty of cover songs such as Tim Mcgraw’s “Shotgun Rider” and Luke Bryan’s “I Don’t Want This Night To End.”
They also strive to bring originality to the DMV by performing songs written by Crawford. They perform originals such as “Genuine All Night Man” and an inspirational ballad titled “Daddy.” In between sets you can find Crawford greeting the crowd and taking pictures. He is well-loved and the reason why is oh so very clear. He says his fans will always support him because of who he is as a person.
“Country music speaks to the heart and it is real life. People see me as being someone that is genuine, compassionate and caring. They hear it in the songs that I have written and they see it live at the shows. I am accessible and approachable and this appeals to people. From early on in my career, I quickly realized that it is the people who come out to see you that really matter and if I stay real and serve up the kind of music they want, they will always come.”
Their entire performance was entertaining and refreshing. They had the perfect ratio of up-tempo songs vs. ballads and the crowd was all in. I can definitely see why they are one of the top working bands in the area. Dean Crawford & The Dunn’s River Band not only bring entertainment to the stage, but passion as well.
