What better way is there to break the ice with your upcoming tour openers than by surprising them with a polar plunge? If you ask Dierks Bentley, he would say “NONE!” And that is exactly how Bentley hazed his tourmates after letting them know they would be joining him on the road this summer for the 2015 Sounds of Summer Tour.
On January 4th, during an extremely bitter Nashville winter, Bentley made Kip Moore, Maddie & Tae, and Canaan Smith bond with him over a little dip in Nashville’s Percy Priest Lake. The headliner told People:
It was definitely an icebreaker because we practically broke some ice. If I had seen a small iceberg floating by I would not have been surprised! . . . We don’t start touring until the summer, but to already have had this bonding experience is pretty cool. I just told them, “Hey, we’re headed out on a tour called Sounds of Summer, and to get in summer mode, I thought we’d meet at one of my favorite places and pretend like it’s summer time.”
Though Moore was less than thrilled with the experience, made evident by the video and Bentley’s assessment of the arctic adventure, it proved to be a great way for the four acts to become one family before their long days and nights of rehearsals and traveling begin.
When there’s fun backstage it translates to the show and the crowd can feel it. If we don’t go out there and make this show the best it can be, it’s all a big waste of time for everybody.
Are you heating up for the 2015 Sounds of Summer Tour? If so, take a second to cool down by watching Dierks Bentley, Kip Moore, Maddie & Tae, and Canaan Smith take the polar plunge of solidarity.
