Did we kiss and make up, forgive and forget or just moving on? Coined as one of music’s biggest feuds, not country music, but all of music, occurring in 2012 between Eric Church and Miranda Lambert. During an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Church made a comment about reality singing shows that sent the twitter world into a complete frenzy.
“Honestly, if Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green f—ing turn around in a red chair, you got a deal? That’s crazy. I don’t know what would make an artist do that. You’re not an artist.” He went on to explain his position a bit more. Eric Church feels that reality shows can be a shortcut to success and ultimately we are taking too much focus away from the music itself. “I will starve first”, says Church.
Blake Shelton quoted his comment on twitter first and added, “I wish I misunderstood this”. He left it at that, but his firecracker wife isn’t known for letting things go.
Miranda fired back with ,”Thanks Eric Church for saying I’m not a real artist. Or Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban.” She went on to say, “You’re welcome for the tour in 2010” referring to the tour where he opened up for her that year.
Miranda reacted and then backed down pretty quickly. She said she almost felt empathy for him because they have all been caught up in that interview situation where something crossed the line. As time passed she was simply disappointed that he wasn’t taking the high road and apologizing.
Eric Church did eventually respond with the following statement,”I have a lot of respect for what artists like Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, and my friend Miranda Lambert have gone on to accomplish. This piece was never intended to tear down any individual and I apologize to anybody I offended in trying to shed light on this issue. I am grateful for all of the artists and fans that have supported me along my journey and certainly did not mean for my comments to undermine their talent and achievements.”
It appears time heals all wounds as Eric Church and Miranda Lambert will be playing a show together this summer in Jacksonville, Florida.
