Sometimes in showbiz, the old adage is “The show must go on.” This was the case for Eric Chuch on Saturday night in Salt Lake City, Utah when the majority of his band and crew fell ill with a stomach flu. Rather than let down the packed arena, Church took the stage and performed a full set, almost entirely acoustic.
While his band made occasional appearance, Church treated the fans to acoustic renditions of his hits like “Give Me Back My Hometown,” “Drink In My Hand,” “Cold One” and “Talladega.” He was also joined onstage by opener Lzzy Hale for a scaled back and acoustic version of “That’s Damn Rock and Roll.”
Although Church managed to work his way through the 19 song setlist, he did promise fans a makeup “bonus” show on May 25th.
In a recap on his official website, they posted his announcement from the show. “If you’ve seen our show so far on this tour, you’re probably wondering what the hell is going on right now. Well, so I am. Here’s the deal, yesterday we had the stomach flu strike our band, our crew, everyone. We had no one to hang video, lights, nothing. But I’m still here. I’m still standing. We’ve talked about how every show on the Outsiders Tour is different. Well tonight, will be the most different one. Shit there’s nobody left, its just me. I’m going to give you everything I got. We have a couple band guys that feel ok to get up and down here. Here’s the deal – on Memorial Day we’re going to come back and play the full show. I’m not going anywhere, I’m here to play. Its gunna be crazy. “
