Yielding from Georgia, Eric Dodd knows a thing or two about growing up in the south. With the release of his latest EP, FUN/FIRE/RAIN, slated for September 16, you’ll get to experience a bit of his southern-rooted music with a Nashville touch. Ever since Dodd’s latest single, “Outskirts” has been released, it has created a buzz that can’t be ignored. The music video for “Outskirts” recently reached the number one spot on CMT 12-Pack Countdown and continues to set the tone for FUN/FIRE/RAIN.
Eric explains his excitement about his EP,
“I am most excited about having new material out there for the country music fans. It has been three years since my last release, and I can’t wait to see their reaction to the EP and my direction. I worked really hard to choose the right songs, and I really think country music lovers will turn FUN / FIRE / RAIN up to 10.”
The kick-off track, “Fun” lives up to the title as it is upbeat, friendly, and everything you’d expect on a typical country music album, both lyrically and musically. As with any country album, you’ll hear songs about an aching heart, which can be found in “Relapse,” and the closing track, “Burned Down,” which solemnly warns about knowing the end result yet still getting siphoned back into a wrecked relationship, “Next time you come around, I’ll know what you’re all about so I don’t get burned.”
“Damn Love,” begins with an old school, rock ‘n roll infused country echo, and it is one of those songs you will catch yourself singing at the top of your lungs because it’s equally relatable and catchy. Similarly, you’re not going to be able to get the song, “Rain Rain” out of your head. It’s bubbly and the hand-raising hook, “Keep on pouring that love on me” laced with banjo and complementary guitar riffs will have you bopping your head in agreeance.
The highlight track is definitely the current single, “Outskirts” which is undeniably the party anthem for every country guy/girl. Synthetic bass and cautious guitar strums set up the ‘Friday feeling’ that is cause for celebrating on the weekly, on the outskirts of town.
This is one EP you’re not going to want to pass up, so mark your calendars for September 16! Until then, you can preorder your copy of FUN/FIRE/RAIN, and make sure to keep up with Eric Dodd on his website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.
