Is it or is it not the next Florida Georgia Line single from upcoming album Anything Goes? Your guess is as good as ours. However, SiriusXM The Highway has picked up “Sun Daze” and played it numerous times, so all signs point to yes. . . . Unless the boys of Florida Georgia Line have taken it a little too far for radio waves with their newest track . . . The jury is still out on that and, BOY, have the comments been flying in regarding this song.
Love it or hate it, “Sun Daze” is witty. Perhaps witty on subjects that may still be a little too liberal for country music, but witty nonetheless. The song is reminiscent of a collaborative effort between Buffett and Marley, sounding very islandish and like a perfect track for your “going to the beach” playlist. The lyrics follow closely, talking about outdoor activities, including flip cup, corn hole, blaring music, wearing shades, and drinking. Oh, and there is the potential of getting laid and stoned, as well.
Alright, let’s pause it right there. Alcohol, drugs, “Sun DAZE” … clever, right? Moving on.
Not nearly as deep as “Dirt,” the first single off Anything Goes, the chorus of “Sun Daze” celebrates just having a good time, no holds bar:
All I wanna do today is wear my favorite shades and get stoned. Work a little less, play a little more, that’s what this day is for and all I wanna do is lace my J’s and lace some Jack in my Coke. Work on my laid back, ain’t nothin’ wrong with gettin’ my sun daze on. Gettin’ my sun daze on.
Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard have been working hard for a long time. They deserve a good, ole fashion sun daze, don’t they? Let us know what you think of “Sun Daze” by leaving a comment below and/or following us on Twitter @CMchatLIVE.
