They Ain’t Afraid of No Ghost! – Country Music’s #CMchat 7 Quick Clicks

They Ain't Afraid of No Ghost!

Ghostbusters is a movie that is ingrained in the minds and hearts of all 1980s children. If you were alive in the greatest decade that there ever was and there ever will be, you are fortunate enough to call movies like Ghostbusters and the star-studded cast staples in your childhood/lifetime.

Why is this 1984 flick being referenced on our sleek and stunning 2015 country music website? Well, it appears some geniuses have decided to remake the film, but not in true re-creation fashion. Rather, the rumors are now flying that a cast of funny females (Melissa McCarthy and Amy Poehler, for example) will be taking the place of the likes of Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd.

Whether this is true remains a mystery to the team here at Country Music’s #CMchat, but it did get us thinking — if the movie was to be redone and new cast members were selected to take the place of the original collection of comedic actors, which country music stars would best fit the roles that are impossible to replicate? Check out our choices below and let us know who you could think would brave the ghosts of New York City by tweeting us @CMchatLIVE.

1 & 2. The Swon Brothers as Dr. Peter Venkman and Dr. Raymond “Ray” Stantz

Ghostbusters Swon Brothers

There is no denying that Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd had quite the brotherhood going in the hit flick. So, it seemed rather apropos to go with another brotherhood that would have incomparable chemistry on screen, as well as the senses of humor to take the places of the Saturday Night Live alumni. With that being said, Zach and Colton, if it comes down to it and you are ever considered for these roles, I’ll “pray for you.”

3. JT Hodges as Dr. Egon Spengler

I’ll admit it. It’s all about the hair here. Otherwise, I would be remiss to cast JT in this role for the simple reason that hiding his gorgeous baby blues behind Egon’s spectacles seems blasphemous. But, because of those sky high locks, JT, I will “hunt you down” and convince you to prove that you ain’t afraid of no ghost.

4. Darius Rucker as Winston Zeddemore

Darius Rucker Ghostbusters

This one time Ernie Hudson was in a movie called The Jazz Singer and Darius is a singer. That is why I made this casting decision.

5. Taylor Swift as Janine Melnitz

Taylor Swift Ghostbusters

Do they get much cuter than Annie Potts in the role of Janine Melnitz? Do they get any more adorable than bleacher bound blonde Taylor Swift in the “You Belong with Me” video? The answer to both of these questions is a resounding “no,” which is why I couldn’t “shake it off” when Taylor’s face popped into my head for this part.

6. Scotty McCreery as Louis Tully

Rick Moranis Scotty McCreery

There is something so endearing, yet quirky, about Rick Moranis in every role he plays. Whether it is a scientific dad who shrinks his offspring or a spoof of Darth Vader, this actor is one of the more memorable men of the movies back in the 80s. Then there is Scotty McCreery. Just look at that face. How can you not love him in the same way you love good ‘ol Rick? You can’t. Oh, and Scotty has clearly mastered the art of the dopey expression that is necessary to rock the role of Louis Tully. Yes, I am “feelin’ it,” indeed.

7. Reba McEntire as Dana Barrett

Sigourney Weaver Reba

Sometimes a picture just speaks for itself. I’m giving you a major break here, Reba. Here’s your one chance, “Fancy.” Don’t let me down!

Blake Shelton as Slimer

Blake Shelton Slimer

Because who else could play the slimiest, silliest ghost of them all? If I had a choice of a country music megastar to portray this messy jokester, Blake, “mine would be you.”
