Country Music #CMchat friend and fan favorite, Gwen Sebastian, began teasing new music on February 4th via her social media accounts. We began intently keeping an eye on her accounts from that moment until today — when the wait came to an end.
“That Could Be Us,” the product we have been anticipating for the last nine days, is a collaborative effort between Gwen, Jenee Fleenor, and Rebecca Lynn Howard, both of whom are featured on the track as background vocalists and instrumental support. The acoustic offering, consisting of only the three artists’ vocals, a violin, and a guitar, is a breathtaking ballad about finally finding the strength to give the whole of yourself to somebody else.
Gwen sings of the possibility of a beautiful forever that lasts an eternity, once the willingness to let go overtakes somebody and he is ready to take the risk and throw his heart out, in hopes that someone will be there to catch it. The video appropriately shares a montage of family photos and videos, showcasing wedding moments of each of the artists with their husbands, as well as pictures reminiscing on their heritages and film focusing on their futures in the form of children.
The beautifully harmonized chorus issues a heartfelt promise, if only the recipient of this song will accept her heart and hold it tight:
‘Cause I can see you and me carved out in a tree, a hundred years later, grandkids flipping through the scrapbook pages at the smile on our faces in love. That could be us.
As always, Gwen Sebastian vocally dominates, proving why she is so seamlessly able to step out from the background singer role and strive toward a solo artist career simultaneously. If you are looking for the perfect way to tell that special someone how you feel this Valentine’s Day, send that person a copy of Gwen’s song and let him or her know “That Could Be Us.”
