Have you ever thought you made up a word, then Google’d it only to see it’s already a word people are using? Well, an artist named Anton Johnstone, aka Anton and his Stone, sent me his “Country” version of Hoobastank’s The Reason. Hoobastank’s The Reason happens to be one of my all-time favorite songs, so I was intrigued to see just what Anton had come up with.
Back to why I was Google’n … the first word that came to mind to describe his version was that it sounds PUNKTRY, a punked out Y’allternative Country version. Turns out this word and genre already exists:
Now back to the music.
This prompted me to come up with a new feature: #CoutryThat which I will personally curate here on CMchatLIVE.com, searching for songs that have GONE COUNTRY. I invite you to send me Country version, or fusions, of any popular song in history, or even a Country-er version of a Pop-Country song or a Classic Country song with a fusion twist….just send me stuff you think is cool. I will sift through it, see what strikes my fancy and share here, as well as my other social media sites. I’ll even give it a chance for a #DigitalDuel with the original version to see what fans like best. I can’t wait to see what you submit to me. Use this link to send me your songs. If you’ve come this far on this post and you hate this idea, I don’t care. I love it and am SO EXCITED to hear what you send me. (See some of my rules below.)
Anton and the Stone The Reason (Country Version)
Hoobastank The Reason (Original)
There really aren’t any rules for what I will consider.
This can be an acoustic original you send me on a YouTube video, maybe something you see at an artist’s show, one of your own shows that you want me to consider, or something you find whilst patrolling the interwebs. I consider this a community effort to find the best versions of songs that someone said, “I am gonna #CountryThat song”. I just need to be able to be embed it. I prefer Soundcloud or YouTube, but send what you got or find and I’ll see what I can do!

Everyone asks “what exactly do you do Jessica?” What some of my family members say, “she tweets for a living” is my favorite, but really the title that puts food on the table is “Social Media Influencer,” the definition sounds simple, someone who influences others through social media, but I consider myself a Citizen Journalist broadcasting and entertaining with news, thoughts, opinions, delivering information in my own unique way. Famous for my ‘sass wit and straight from the hip’ style I’ve always been called a “Social Media Pioneer” in the music industry. I’m also an On-Air/Online Broadcasting Host and Personality, Digital Media Strategist, Country and Music Blogger/Journalist as well as a Nationally recognized Speaker and Founder of Country Music Chat, News and Views Entertainment Website CMChatLIVE.com. My favorite accomplishment is starting the largest Country Music Hashtag community in the world Country Music’s #CMChat.
It all started with a hunch…back in the early 2000’s I would dial up the internet via AOL and join chat rooms whilst watching my favorite programs on TV. Loved watching Reality Shows with my Mom in Tucson, and blowing her mind with how I always knew who was going home on the Bachelor or Big Brother. Don’t think she ever caught on that I was talking to people via computer on the East Coast, where it had already aired. (We didn’t have the uber-spoiler Twitter or Facebook to ruin results and awards shows for us yet.)
I’ve been taking over the internet, one tweet at a time and have accumulated over 3 Million followers/friends/fans across all my Social Media networks. Over the years I’ve been consistently ranked as an influential online personality and even named as a Forbes Top 50 Social Media Power Influencer. I was the first person Merle Haggard followed when he got on Twitter and spent the day with Garth Brooks at Twitter and Facebook when joined the social media world.
