J. Michael Harter is an Arizona boy who made the move to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a career in country music. Making the 1,723 mile trip (but who’s counting?), Harter is willing to do whatever it takes to follow in the footsteps of some of his musical heroes, Garth Brooks, George Strait, Clint Black, and Alan Jackson.
Harter recently released Ride On, a collection of eight tracks, including his new single “Holy Cowgirl.” “Holy Cowgirl” is a song that bleeds influence from the aforementioned country legends, dialing it back to a time when country music was, unquestionably, country. The song tells a story of a blazing beauty on the dance floor, commanding attention, and making men swoon as she makes her way around. Particularly fond of this cowgirl is Harter who can’t help but to exclaim “holy cowgirl!” at the sight.
The chorus celebrates the vision before him:
Holy cowgirl! Where you been all my life? Holy cowgirl! You’re doin’ everything right. Rockin’ them jeans, yeah, ya nothin’ like I’ve ever seen. Struttin’ round like a cowboy dream, holy cowgirl!
Harter reminds us of a time in music when a man admiring a woman wasn’t classified as “bro country,” infusing the acceptable nature of sex appeal in the genre with a classic sound. While it wouldn’t be anticipated that a man hailing from Tempe, Arizona would enter the scene with a twang for days that, when supported by guitars, drums, and keys, could be akin to the greats, Harter certainly pulls it off remarkably!
