Jackie Lee is a name you may not be familiar with yet, but you should be. After initially making his mark with a song called “She Does” back in 2014, Jackie Lee is back with a renewed sense of purpose and a clear vision for his future. His new single “Getting Over You” is catchy, but doesn’t give up any authenticity in the process. I had the chance to talk with him recently about the new single and what inspires his journey as a country music artist in Nashville.
What can you tell me about your new single “Getting Over You?”
I really believe in this song. I co-wrote it with Brent Anderson and Paul DiGiovanni. I always try and work with people that I look up to and admire and Paul was a founding member of the band Boys Like Girls who are one of my favorite bands. Basically, we were in the writing room and Brent had just broken up with his girlfriend so the idea for the song came from that. A few months later my label heard the song and Paul agreed to produce it and here we are. I’m so excited to get it out to as many people as possible.
You have a video up online called “Jackie Lee: Made In Tennessee” where you mention how your parents had different musical interests. How has that affected your life and career as a country music artist?
I think they’ve both influenced me a lot as I’ve tried to find my voice and what I want to bring to the genre. My dad was always playing country music. He didn’t know anything else. My mom was a real 80s pop girl. I try to pull from both of those because I grew up in this generation where you didn’t have to have only one kind of music on your playlist. They’ve taught me to find what connects for me because if I believe in it that will translate and hopefully it will impact those who hear it as well.
“Getting Over You” is obviously a song about trying to move on after a relationship just didn’t work out. How do you use music to get through those sometimes unexpected challenges life throws at you?
Music to me is my life. It’s the make-up of who I am and who my family is. I believe I can express myself truly through music. They’re not always going to be happy and upbeat songs because life isn’t always like that. Music is one of those things that will always be there no matter the emotion. I’m really proud of “Getting Over You” because I know I can relate to it and I think once others hear it, they’ll be able to as well. This song is so authentic to me. I really want that to translate well.
How are you promoting the single right now and where can fans find it so they can have a listen and share it with others?
We’ve been visiting radio stations a lot. I think we were out on the west coast for three weeks and then we went across the country and visited some in the northeast. We’re just trying to reach as many places as we can right now. You can find it on iTunes and Spotify and there’s also an audio video for it on YouTube right now as well.
This song will be a game changer for Jackie Lee. He’s got a solid voice and he’s a truly talented and humble guy. I love that at the end of this interview he said “no one will figure out who you are for you.” “Getting Over You” was added to country radio stations across the country on December 12 and was the third most added song. It’s also currently being featured on Amazon Music’s Fresh Country playlist. Keep an eye on this Broken Bow Music Group artist because I have no doubt you’ll be hearing a lot more from him in the future.
