In case you missed the finale of American Idol this past week, here’s a quick recap: There was a lot of filler performances and the loud rock singer with terrible hair won the coveted title. It remains to be seen if he’ll end up following in the footsteps of Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson or if he’ll fade into obscurity like many of the show’s other winners. However, while he may have won the show, it was this season’s fourth place finisher that provided one of finale night’s most thrilling highlights, hitting the stage with the always entertaining Jennifer Nettles.
GRAMMY Award-winning powerhouse Nettles began with her debut solo single “That Girl” before joining Meuse on an impressive cover of the Miley Cyrus hit “Wrecking Ball.” There was no need for twerking or hammer licking here, as the duo joined their powerful voices for an incredible duet.
The duet was a perfect fit for Meuse, who covered a wide array of country stars during her stint on the show, including Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan and Dolly Parton. Considering that many of her performances on the show dabbled in country, it’ll be interesting to see if she pursues that direction as she begins her post-Idol career.
