Just last year, Black River Entertainment’s John King burst onto the country music scene with the release of his debut single, the endlessly catchy “Tonight, Tonight.” Now, he’s back with his sophomore single, the Southern-rock-infused track, “On Your Lips,” an ode to picking up someone sweet in a bar.
The track opens up with driving guitars, setting the scene as King ponders his future, deciding that rather than being a doctor or a lawyer, his number one goal – at least for the evening – is to simply be the next thing on the lips of the object of his desire. “If I could be anything, I’d wanna be the drink in your hand when you take a sip,” King growls playfully, his drawling voice a perfect match for the song’s country rock instrumentation. “If I could be anything, I wanna be the next thing on your lips.”
John King has opened for the likes of Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean and Eric Church, and all of their influences can be felt here. However, despite the similarities, he doesn’t simply sink into the a mire of bro-country sameness here, offering a unique take on a familiar subject matter.
In some ways, “Tonight, Tonight” was like country music’s blind date with John King, and it was one that went surprisingly well. Now that we’ve been introduced to the future megastar, date #2 comes in the form of “On Your Lips,” and we’re officially hooked on the Georgia native. We can’t wait to see what else is in store for John King and country music, but we’re fairly certain that the two are going to live very happily ever after.
To celebrate the release of “On Your Lips” and his new EP, set for release this Tuesday, March 3rd, John King will be joining Jessica Northey and Country Music’s #CMchat for a Twitterview on March 2nd! Get all the details here.
