Concert Review: Casey Muessigmann & JoshThompson

Skooters Roadhouse in Shorewood, Illinois is recognized by locals as the top country music venue in the suburbs. Every Friday and Saturday, Skooters Roadhouse brings live country music artists fresh from Nashville, as well as local favorites, to perform live in “the barn” from 10pm-2am. On Friday, November 13, 2015, Skooters brought Casey Muessigmann and Josh Thompson as part of their live country event, and it was an unforgettable show!

Getting the crowd warmed up for Josh Thompson, was The Voice Season 3 contestant, Casey Muessigmann. Muessigmann engaged the crowd with an expertly mixed set list of well-known cover songs, as well as some of his originals. One of my favorite moments (and easily the sweetest moment) of the night was when Muessigmann told the story of how he began listening to country music. His grandma Jean would make him listen to country music as a little boy, and he said that the first song that made him fall in love with country music, was Toby Keith’s “Should Have Been a Cowboy.”

When the lights flashed and Josh Thompson took the stage, singing his fan-favorite song, “Same Ol’, Plain Ol ‘Me,” the crowd was excited and entranced with his presence. Thompson is a known writer, writing songs that got cut by artists such as Jason Aldean, James Wesley, and Brad Paisley. He writes his own music as well, and you can tell how much it means to him by how much passion radiates from his connection to the lyrics in his performance.

He continued his set with his highest chart topping hit, “Way Out Here” and made sure to sing our favorite hard workin’, beer drinkin’ songs such as “Cold Beer With Your Name on It,” and “Beer on The Table.” One of the highlights of the night was towards the end of the set when he sang “Work In The Mornin” (co-written by David Lee Murphy) because by the way the audience was belting out the words, while holding their beers up, it seemed as if nobody had to work in the morning! It was time to party! Thompson carried out one heck of a night before entering the stage for his encore performance, the appropriately titled night-cap, “Drink, Drink, Drink.”

Josh Thompson and Casey Muessigmann made quite an impression at Skooters Roadhouse and I’m certain that everyone would love to have them back again soon! Check out more Josh Thompson tour dates here.
