#ProjectFeelSafe: @KatieArmiger Salutes The People Who Make Us Feel “Safe”

I’ll gladly admit that the right types of touching stories and songs will get me emotional. And when I listen to Katie Armiger‘s beautiful single “Safe” and look at the campaign that it’s inspired, it’s impossible not to shed a few tears.

On its own, the song is a very moving ballad dedicated to that special person who not only has your heart, but gives you safety and protection when you’re together. That relationship is “a place that I can always stay” with “no fear, no harm to my heart” and being in it is like home.

But Armiger gave the song an even deeper meaning when she started Project Feel Safe; an awareness campaign dedicated to supporting the nation’s first responders and their families. People can share videos and stories through the project website and social media, and first responders and their loved ones all over the country can connect and support each other.

This campaign is very close to my heart. I have family and friends who are police officers, firefighters and EMTs and have a lot of respect for what they do. It can be nerve-wracking to know that people I care about have to sometimes put themselves in harm’s way, but at the same time I am grateful that they are there to protect those who need it. We do salute these people after tragic events like the 9/11 attacks, but sometimes we overlook their daily sacrifices and the risks that they take for us.

What I say here though cannot do justice to this cause. Check it out for yourself at youmakemefeelsafe.com and add your stories or support.

Thank you, Katie, for honoring these brave folks.

And I’ll be honest. When I said “shed a few tears” earlier I meant “become a blubbering mess.”
