Country Music Star Gets by with a Little Help from a Famous Friend

Perhaps not “news” in the common sense of the word, but how could we resist reporting on such a feel good story of support in the country music family? We often say that this genre is unlike any other because of the familial aura that emits at events, as the artists truly seem to respect one another and cheer each other on in this crazy little world of music. This particular story truly emanates the type of support that we have grown to know and love amongst the people involved in country music and around Nashville.

Brantley Gilbert recently and openly spoke to Country Countdown USA, explaining how pivotal Keith Urban was during his journey to sobriety. Though the two were merely acquaintances at the time Gilbert turned his life around, he explained that Urban reached out to him to offer advice and support down a road he knows all too well.

In discussing Urban’s impact on his life change, Gilbert explained:

“Keith’s actually been a really good dude to me. When I was making changes in my life, I was down and out, I was even in the hospital, and he showed up and spent several hours with me one day out of nowhere, just encouraging me, because I had a lot of worries about doing my job. Keith told me, “Man it’s a whole new world. It’s different but you’re gonna have a lot more fun with it.” He was just uplifting and reassuring. He’s one of those guys when you meet him, you know he has a good soul. He has an awesome heart and is an awesome dude. That was a pretty impressive thing to me. You meet people in the business, and wonder how compassionate they are. But he showed up out of the blue, and I hardly knew the guy. I’ll never forget that as long as I live, and I’m indebted to him now.”

While artists are often pinned against each other for awards, on the charts, and for radio play, the beauty of the country music industry is the artists’ abilities to remove the business-related boxing gloves and lend a helping hand to a brother or sister in need. Have we mentioned today that we love country music?
