I got the opportunity to see Kelleigh Bannen perform live recently and, a week later, I’m still amazed. Her single, “Sorry on the Rocks” was the only song I knew and the decision to go to her show came from my admiration for that song and curiosity to see how she sounded live.
The venue offered free admission and seating was first come, first serve. People started lining up at 9:30am for the 7pm show.
Kelleigh opened the show speaking about how she would be filling in for Florida Georgia Line on a few dates of their current tour. To honor that, she played a mash up of her song “Oh My My” and Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise”. What seats that were left in the venue filled when people in the casino heard her performing and came to watch. Crowds gathered around the barriers as everyone sang along to Garth Brooks, “Friends in Low Places”, Stevie Nicks, and Fleetwood Mac. One song of her own that was performed was only written a week before, but you would never know it to listen to Kelleigh and her band.
By the time Kelleigh started singing a cover of Adele’s “Rumor Has It”, I was sold. This woman has an incredible talent and she ranged over genres and styles without any visible effort. It is no wonder Kelleigh Bannen has made several ‘Women to Watch in 2013’ lists. I look forward to hearing what she puts out next.
