When Little Big Town released their incredible album, Pain Killer, one track immediately caught the ears of fans, reviewers and fellow artists across the Twitterverse. Everyone from Faith Hill to Sam Hunt applauded the incredibility that is “Girl Crush,” a Hillary Lindsey/ Lori McKenna/ Liz Rose-penned country masterpiece of heartbreaking proportions. Another artist that immediately professed her love for the track was cover chameleon Kelly Clarkson.

So what’s a music fan like Kelly to do? Cover the song of course. On Pain Killer and in their live shows, Karen Fairchild wails the heck out of this song, and while KC doesn’t tweak much about the musical masterpiece, she adds her own spin and soul to an already haunting track.
The track, which is slated to be Little Big Town’s next single, tells the twisted story of a woman longing to be the object of a man’s affections, dreaming of taking the place of the woman already filling the role. “That song is so good. I wanna call all the writers and be like, ‘I hate you for not sending this to me…” Clarkson jokes. “I just love that song and I don’t feel like songs are written like that anymore, ya know, just so bluesy and nice. And the song is kinda creepy, which is why I like it, because I’m weird.”
