It’s been less than a week since Kelly Clarkson slayed our souls with her gorgeous rendition of Sam Smith‘s hugely popular pop hit “Stay With Me,” and just when we’d finally recovered from that, Clarkson has done it again. The Queen of Covers, as she may as well be named, decided to put her own twist on Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” that was equal parts soulful, hilarious and Taylor Swift-approved.
The cover to end all covers took place at Shea’s Performing Arts Center in Buffalo, NY as part of a free show to celebrate the opening of a new Microsoft Store at Walden Galleria. As she teased the song she was about to perform to the eager crowd, Clarkson tried to play it cool, saying “This is a church song. This is a soulful song. This is one of my favorite songs out right now.”
While the audience clearly expected a repeat of “Stay With Me,” Clarkson blew minds as she began soulfully crooning, “I stay out too late, Got nothing on my brain…” Basically at that point, the entire audience erupts into madness, realizing what’s about to happen. And happen it does.
While #CMChat certainly approves this cover, it was also approved by Miss Taylor herself, who tweeted:

You know you’re set when you have T-Swizzle’s approval just hours before the release of her highly anticipated album 1989.
And welcome back, KC, we’ve certainly missed your covers…and wouldn’t mind if you covered every song that was ever written in the history of the world.
