Album Review – Laura Bell Bundy – Another Piece of Me

Much like Kellie Pickler, it’s hard not to describe Laura Bell Bundy without using words like spunky, sparkplug, feisty, sassy and firecracker (among other apt descriptives). And while that fire finds a hot house on her new album Another Piece of Me, Bundy really does show another piece of her on her latest album, one that is at times tender, vulnerable, yet hopeful.

Laura Bell Bundy’s Another Piece of Me kicks off with “Love Me Like a Lady,” an amped up country stomper in which her intentions to her man can’t possibly be misconstrued. The song sets the tone for a very open and honest country record.

Two of the albums 15 songs have already seen the light of day as singles – the rambunctious country EDM-esque “Kentucky Dirty,” and the bombastic girls night out song “Two Step” featuring everyone’s favorite hick-hopper Colt Ford.

Bundy’s tender side shines on the album’s proper first single “I Am What I Am,” a beautifully written song about accepting who you are, faults and all. If this song isn’t in my Top 10 of 2015 I’d be shocked. She also shines on the personal/sentimental “China and Wine,” “That’s What Angels Do,” and the album’s title track.

“Let’s Pretend We’re Married” is a fine honkytonker country come on song, or at least an excuse for gettin’ it on guilt-free with a new suitor. “Making Me Feel” is an uplifting, up-tempo that I can’t help but think of “It Happens” by Sugarland when I hear it…that’s a good thing.

“Missin’ Me Yet” and “Happy Yet” find Bundy at her sassiest as an ex that is happy to be an ex and it sucks to be you, because her life is pretty awesome without you. Basically, you blew it dude.

With Another Piece of Me the multi-faceted Laura Bell Bundy has served up a perfect slice of her life for fans new and old to digest.
