With “Take the Keys,” Leah Turner poised herself as a female force to be reckoned with in the currently male-dominated world of country music. The top 40 hit may have set her up for success, showing off her voice and her feisty side, but it’s the follow up single “Pull Me Back” that shows her softer side. The softer offering tells the story of a girl who’d rather hug the other side of the bed rather than the man lying right next to her. The tune is vulnerable and relatable: the perfect track for country radio to pick up and show that they will support new female artists.
The chorus is the type that speaks to every girl, whether you’re single and dreaming of the perfect man who will always pull you back or in a relationship and can relate:
Even when I push you away, I want you to pull me back / When you can’t make it OK, I still want you to wait / You say what you say and I do what I do / At the end of the day I still love you / Even when I push you away, pull me back.
While the version of “Pull Me Back” on her EP (Read our full review here!) is absolutely stellar, Leah has released an acoustic version for the song, showing that, when all the bells and whistles are stripped away, she still shines…and brightly! Surrounded by her band on acoustic instruments, the singer commands your attention in the video, set on a beach as the sun sets.
Make sure to stay tuned until the end for an adorable cameo!
