The Legacy of Sherman Halsey

If you look up the word “respect” you will likely find the name Sherman Halsey. Sherman was a legendary music video and television director and producer. The world lost this great man on October 29, 2013 but the legacy he left both professionally and personally will always resonate with those that knew him.

Sherman began his career in the country music industry when he was just 13 years old. His father, Jim Halsey, was a management and concert promoter. The father/son duo ran the Jim Halsey Company which was the largest, most reputable agency in country music at the time. They represented almost 50 artists including The Judds, Waylon Jennings, The Oak Ridge Boys, Merle Haggard, Reba McEntire and more. Sherman went on to direct and produce a multitude of videos including over 30 for megastar Tim McGraw.

At the CMT Artist of the Year presentation in Nashville Tuesday close friends Dwight Yokum and Tim McGraw thanked Halsey for being so instrumental in their career and lives in general. Tim McGraw said in his acceptance speech “He’s meant so much to my career throughout all the years Ive made videos. Sherman deserves this CMT award more than I do and I wish he was here tonight”.

Sherman’s last gift was a heartfelt video he directed for Ronnie Dunn for the song “Kiss You There”. The video holds special meaning for Dunn and his team. “Kiss You There” takes us on a journey to the Grand Canyon, White House, Statue of Liberty and more while portraying Dunn on a larger than life screen at each landmark.

Sherman’s warm heart and innate ability to connect with musicians will be missed. However, his presence will be felt eternally in the words of  100’s of videos he had a hand in….this is his legacy.
