Stoney Creek Records (a subsidiary of Broken Bow Records) recording artist, Lindsay Ell, took time to pay tribute to one of the most iconic artists of our lifetimes.
Joe Cocker passed away on December 22, 2014 after his battle with lung cancer. Musicians and industry professionals came out in droves to pay their respects to Cocker, recalling the impact the rock and blues singer had on music. Cocker’s agent most eloquently expressed that he was “without doubt the greatest rock/soul singer ever to come out of Britain.”
Even young artists recognize the influence Cocker had on music, including new country artist, Lindsay Ell. Ell headed to YouTube, classily and artistically sharing the lens with only her guitar and a window, covering Cocker’s classic “You Are So Beautiful” and doing so in the most honorable and respectable of ways. While “You Are So Beautiful” was originally recorded by one of the song’s writers, Billy Preston, it was made famous when Cocker lent his gritty and identifiable vocals to the track.
In paying homage to Cocker, Ell simply stated “He knew a level of soul like nobody else…I will always be able to hear his voice sing this song. Here’s one of my all time favorites….in honor of Joe Cocker May 20, 1944 – December 22, 2014.”
Without further ado, here is Ms. Lindsay Ell’s acoustic version of Joe Cocker’s “You Are So Beautiful.”
