There’s no denying that Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush” is one of country music’s most-buzzed about tracks in years. Now, the quartet is revealing a behind-the-scenes look at the tumultuous tale, from recording studio footage to interesting anecdotes about the recording process. In fact, Karen Fairchild admits that she re-recorded the song at the urging of producer Jay Joyce to make it reach the caliber it’s at now.
While the girls wrote the song, it’s the boys that are big fans. “I think ‘girl crush’ is one of the most brilliant lyrics I’ve heard in such a long time,” says Jimi Westrbook. “It gives me chills every time I listen to it.”
“Country music was built on the songs about heartache and jealousy,” says Phillip Sweet.
In describing the story behind the song, Kimberly Schlapman says, “This woman is just looking at the woman her man left her for, and wondering, ‘What does she have that I don’t have? What am I missing? What is it that I can’t give you that she’s giving you?”
While the lyric video for the song is one of our absolute faves, there’s nothing quite like hearing artists describe what went into the making of a track.
